Vacuum Coating Technician

The vacuum coatings technician will operate one of the vacuum deposition tools in accordance with standard operating procedures and health and safety guidelines. They will also contribute on the data collection practices and troubleshooting/fault finding action plans to ensure consistency of outcome.
Directly reporting to the Vacuum Coatings Lead Technician, they will coordinate the production and characterisation of thin films as planned for achieving internal targets and outputs.

Job Purpose:
The vacuum coatings technician will operate one of the vacuum deposition tools in accordance with standard operating procedures and health and safety guidelines. They will also contribute on the data collection practices and troubleshooting/fault finding action plans to ensure consistency of outcome. Directly reporting to the Vacuum Coatings Lead Technician, they will coordinate the production and characterisation of thin films as planned for achieving internal targets and outputs.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The vacuum coatings technician will:
Set up, run, and maintain the thin film coating equipment (sputtering or e beam gun and thermal evaporation).
Perform routine mechanical and electronic adjustments and alignments to the equipment to ensure optimal performance and quality.
Understand and follow target specifications and tolerances for the thin film coatings.
Contribute on data collection and perform control tests and inspections on the thin film coated products (SPC data collection and characterisation).
Troubleshoot and resolve any issues or problems that may arise during the thin film coating process or operation (Out of Control Action Plans – OCAPs).  
Any other duties as requested.
